Our Story

The Aim for the Stars Fundraiser was established in 2021 to support the Matthew Rousseau Sports Scholarship. Each year, three $1,000 scholarships are awarded, one to a male and one to a female student at Lakeview High School (formerly Litchfield High School), and one to a male student at Canton High School. To be eligible, applicants must be members of the basketball team, demonstrate strong academic standing, and show a commitment to serving their community. Funding for the scholarship is raised through an annual basketball game, a meaningful way to honor Matthew’s passion for the sport while bringing the community together.

Matthew Rousseau was just sixteen years old when he tragically passed away on June 9, 2020. He was a dedicated and passionate basketball player, competing not only for his school but also on an AAU team and in a fall league. Matthew poured his heart into the game, spending countless hours practicing, especially perfecting his three-point shot, which became one of his strengths. Beyond athletics, he worked hard academically and gave back to his community as a member of the volunteer fire department. Matthew also knew how to enjoy life. He loved spending time with friends, was known for his playful pranks, and had a truly unforgettable sense of humor.

The name “Aim for the Stars” holds special significance. Matthew had a deep appreciation for stargazing, he often took the time to pause, look up, and embrace the night sky. It was something that brought him a sense of peace and perspective, and it reflects the way he approached life: always looking beyond, always reaching higher. The name serves as a reminder to pursue your goals with that same sense of wonder, ambition, and possibility.
